Course Title: Emergency Preparedness in Childhood Centers 

(This course is the 3rd unit of the Introduction to Early Childhood Education and Care Certificate Program).

This standalone unit can be taken independently or as a crucial component of the larger introductory certification. It is aimed at empowering you with the necessary knowledge and skills to plan and respond effectively to emergencies in childhood centers. The unit is packed with information and resources that will equip you to handle emergencies, including dealing with children post-incident, understanding policy and procedures for various disaster situations such as fire drills, earthquakes, terrorism, missing children, abuse, and severe weather conditions. You’ll also learn about evacuation procedures for different age groups and how to involve children in the restoration process.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this unit:

1: You will understand the benefits of having emergency preparedness procedures in your childhood center.

2: You will learn how to create an emergency plan for different types of emergencies and disasters.

3: You will learn what forms and records you need to have in place to ensure the safety of children under your care. 

4: You will learn about emergency files and the different types of emergency kits. Finally.

5: You will learn about effective strategies to help deal with children after a shock or disaster. 

Learning and assessments

To successfully pass this unit, you must complete the following:

1. Quiz: You will complete a quiz consisting of multiple-choice questions.

2. Workbook: You will also receive a workbook that includes written assignments, reflective activities.

Please note that you must achieve a minimum of 70% score to pass this unit.
